Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

I came across this site browsing and was amused. Then I saw the list of school districts for a satirical letter to be sent to, and saw Naperville.

Did I miss something? Is 'Intelligent Design' actually being taught in Naperville? Or has the topic honestly been debated? I've been away at school for the past year, but... did I miss something?
I just hope it was a fluke.

The day the lawn wasn't mowed [02 May 2006|03:04pm]

[ mood | aggravated ]

Yes... you read my headline right... Thats what our content editor decided to put as the main headline for the immigration rally story this morning... which just so happened to be on page one. I swear he is trying to belittle the incident, claiming it as "Nothing happened". Not only that, but he's using my friend's, Jonathan Miano's, pictures to do it. First, have a look at the front page (sorry the paper was too big for the scanner).

Crappy headline scan followsCollapse )

The two stories aren't related, and Jonathan did everything in his power to stop it from happening. He lost his contact at the rally in the city, and held up a giant sign trying to find anyone from naperville. He did... And this is what happens to her. It's outrageous. Hes been trying to get ahold of her all day to apologize and when we confront our editor, he said "She should be happy she had her picture in the paper". UNBELIVEABLE! I don't know if I'm happy to work here any more or not. I've been here almost 3 years... 3 freaking years, and now it all starts to go down hill. Alex is lucky he doesn't have to deal with injustices to people where hes going to work. This world is cruel... I need to change it, I have to do something... is this the real reason I was put here? Up until now I thought it was to make people happy, but no... this is terrible, and it's hurting Jonathan the most. Jon, if you ever read this, my deepest condolences go out to you. I'm so sorry they treated you, your work, and your subject in such a trivial manner. No one deserves that. Please I urge anyone in the area, please, call, write in, you need to. This sort of thing has got to stop....

Naperville events [31 Dec 2005|11:11pm]

[ mood | fireworks go BOOM! ]

Not all partied out from New Year's? Want to do something with the kids? I just happened to spot this. They're making a big deal about the town being 175 years old, so they're throwing a big party on January 1. If you're in the Chicago area and bored, go check it out. Oh, and be prepared to walk a bit and/ or get a shuttle. Naperville does know how to throw a party, but they never seem to have enough parking spots.

Start the new year off right by celebrating Naperville's 175th anniversary:

Parade sure to be an electrifying experience:

I Love Math

The bands will be playing on Jonester court in Naperville. The house number is unimportant; you'll see it.

From the intersection of Naper and Ogden, take Ogden west to Columbia. Turn right on Columbia. Then turn right on Bauer. Then turn right on Jonester court and look for the driveway full of people.

Respect the venue, but still, tear the place apart.

Working [17 Nov 2005|11:06pm]

Hey guys, just wanted to tell everyone to come see the fall production at Neuqua called "Working"

It's a musical written in tribute to the workers of America, and includes music written by James Taylor and Stephen Schwartz (who also wrote the score for the musical "Wicked"). We're trying to sell as many tickets for this as we can, seeing that next year the fall production might be cut to adhere to new budgets. If we sell enough tickets though, there's a chance the fall production will be saved.

Nov. 17, 18, 19.
Students- $5 Adults- $8
Tickets onsale during option periods in the rotunda, or at the door.

Directed by Dave Scheidecker
Musical/Orchestral Direction by Charles Staley
Choral Direction by Jay Kellner
Technical Direction by Dave Zarembka

You can find a short preview of the production from Wildcat Weekly at the Neuqua website:

To go along with the last entry... here's some more info.

You can check updates at her friend Ashley's blog.

[17 Oct 2005|03:38pm]

This is Andy Wildrick from The Junior Varsity. As of recently, my girlfriend of 3 years, Olamide Adeyooye, has been reported missing by the police. The last known place she was at was Family Video on Kottage Avenue in NORMAL, ILLINOIS on Thursday October 12th at about 9:00pm. Both her and her car are missing. Her cell phone was left at her apartment and her TV was on so she wasn't planning on being gone for long. As you can imagine, this is one of the hardest things I've ever encountered in my life. She is 5'1" tall and weighs about 100lbs. She is Nigerian. If you have any information please email me ASAP at andywildrick@gmail.com I will get the email on my blackberry immediately. Thanks.

The number for the normal police department is 309-454-9535

Here are some specific points of interest:

The last person to see Olamide (Ola) Adeyooye was me on late thursday afternoon. She didn't show up for work yesterday OR today and every single person close to her in her life has not seen her or talked to her since thursday night. A little bit ago, her apartment was broken into by NPD and her cell phone was found on the counter.

If anyone has any information, you can call the normal police or me, Ashley Petrey, at 630-674-7949.

Here is what she looks like: www.myspace.com/olamide1

Also? I will be posting this again periodically throughout the night, but if any of you can copy and repost, and then your friends can copy and repost, and so on and so on, you'd be doing us all a large favor.

Post with the title of something like "This woman is missing, not a joke" or something with her name in it or something that'll get people to read it.

Shot in the dark, but it's all worth trying.

Please help us

Olamide's family and friends

if you have heard anything at all please contact someone...

she drives a green '95 Toyota Corolla...(Illinois) license plate .. LBG 927. her car isnt at her apartment. I know everyone is worried about her.

An update. [16 Sep 2005|11:09am]

[ mood | relieved ]

Despite what you all had to say about my last entry, I would just like to let you all know that the dog went home yesterday. The owners also called animal control (not shelters or ADOPT) and left a message the same night we found the dog. They hadn't gotten to the message by the time we brought him in in the morning, but they finally did and the owners came and picked him up! Turns out he lived just down the street from my boyfriend.

I also just want to say, unless you are in the situation, it's easy to judge and make the decision of what SHOULD be done. But, it's much harder in the situation with the different stipulations that came up. But I think it is at least good to call and report a found dog to animal control because when people lose their dogs, that's usually the first place they contact (and sometimes the only place).

Found dog. [15 Sep 2005|09:45am]

Ok, I know a lot of you guys are off at college now and away from Naperville, but I just thought I'd post this here in case anyone has ANY info. Last night, my boyfriend and I found a dog in his driveway (in Ashbury) on Thackery Lane. We took it in for the night and dropped it off at animal control this morning. No one has called in about a lost dog yet, but we're hoping that it will be found by its owners soon before they decide to euthanize it. :(

It's a fairly big dog - medium large and completely white with 4 brown patches (two over its eyes, one on its back, and one on its tail). It's a male - neutered. We think he's an American Pitbull Terrier, but we're not sure. He's super friendly and well-trained and VERY cute, so I couldn't imagine someone just leaving him to fend for himself. He didn't have a collar or tags, and no chip. If you know ANYTHING about this dog or someone who might be missing him, let me know or call the Naperville Police Department's Animal Control Unit. :) If you would be interested in adopting him after 7 days... call them and let them know as well so that he won't be put to sleep.

Thanks! :)

For those of you who go to Neuqua, I know that they are setting something up in advisory where you can donate money for hurricane relief to the Red Cross and I would assume they would do the same at other Naperville high schools, but no matter where you donate, please donate something.

My aunt and uncle were fortunate enough to have made it far enough away from the worst of it, but they lost everything except some clothes, their car, and their phone.

But there are people who are still down there who need help, so either go here or send your parents here to donate:

So, I guess Naperville has been deemed "The Most Conservative City in Illinois" by the Bay Area Center for Voting Research. By city, they mean town with over 100,000 residents. Thankfully (?), though, we're only the 45th most conservative city in the nation.
Please discuss
For a city that is used to being first, Naperville obviously has some catching up to do. Ugh.
